It's a kind of variant on Murphy's Law - take an umbrella, or preferably three, any time you particularly don't want it to rain. No, seriously, the thing is, we are relatively new at this and it took us a while to realise that there are no guarantees. The first time we hit an unexpected snag, it really threw us. The sun may shine, the horse may excel, you may just have a wow of a time. While I know that "luck" plays a part - training, preparation, planning and attitude take the edge off bad luck.
